She was nominated for a Golden Globe award for her work in the film The Liberation of L.B. The movie was a musical drama about the life of a self-destructive jazz musician, played by Davis.įalana’s career took off in the ’70s with guest-starring roles in TV series including The New Cosby Show and The Streets of San Francisco. She recorded her first single in 1965, My Baby, and was cast in her first film, A Man Called Adam, in 1966 opposite Sammy Davis, Jr. Lola Falana was discovered by Sammy Davis, Jr., who gave her a role in his 1964 Broadway show Golden Boy and became her mentor.
